Abdisalam Ali founded the KAALO foundation in 1994 because he wanted to provide support to the vulnerable communities in Somalia. He moved to Holland in 1991. The projects in Somalia are mainly in Puntland. That’s in the most North-Eastern part of Somalia.
In the story of today we will highlight KAALO´s support for the recent Cholera Outbreak in Somalia this summer.
Abdisalam:” KAALO Nederland has delivered facilities to Bari and Sanaag regions in Somalia as a response to the recent cholera outbreak. Cholera is a severe diarrheal disease caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholera. Rapid and effective response is critical to manage and mitigate outbreaks.”
Abdisalam:” Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene interventions (we call this WASH) play a crucial role in controlling cholera transmission. We donated 20 liters of disinfectant solution and 120 liters of hand soap, packaged in 24 five-liter jerrycans to both regions. These facilities are aimed at improving hygiene practices and enhancing sanitation infrastructure.”
Abdisalam:” Our commitment extends beyond emergency responses. By providing sustainable solutions and continuous support, we aim to ensure that communities have the necessary resources and knowledge to maintain good hygiene practices and improve their overall quality of life.”
Abdisalam:” Our efforts also include implementation of educational programs to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene and sanitation. We work closely with local partners and community leaders to identify specific needs and tailor our interventions accordingly. Through these collaborative efforts, we strive to create lasting impacts that contribute to the health and well-being of the populations we support.”
