This year I will also be sharing Stories of the Diaspora Development Ambassadors.

The fist follow up story of this year will be of former Connecting Diaspora – IOM The Netherlands  Ambassador Abubakarr Bangura, Stichting Sierra Leone Youth Initiative (SLYI)

In this story Abubakarr tells us about the progress of the tailoring workshop and projects they will be working on this month.

Abubakarr: The sewing workshop within the SEP Talenthub is growing steadily. We specifically focus on girls who want to specialize in fashion and clothing production, so that they can build a sustainable future for themselves. This is under the guidance of two experienced mentors, the girls get the chance to develop their craftsmanship and skills.

Abubakarr: this month, the girls and their mentors are working on four important projects, they will produce:

1.    30 bags and pencil cases for 12 students of the Huygens Lyceum in Eindhoven and their tour guides, who will leave for Sierra Leone at the end of the month for a study trip.

2.    Clothes to sell in Sierra Leone, with a special collection for Ramadan.

3.    30 bags for the Dutch market, which will be brought to the Netherlands to sell

Next to this there will be a knowledge exchange with students of Yonder/Mode in Tilburg, investigating whether the participants in Sierra Leone can produce products for young people in Tilburg.

Abubakarr: Ten girls are currently participating in the program, including three young mothers. We strongly believe in the principle of "Leave no one behind" and offer them the opportunity to develop their skills and become economically independent.
