Dealing with violence in Congo, teacher trainings
Today I will be following up on juliènne Doppenberg-Difukidi from TOSANGANA (TOUS ENSEMBLE)
Juliènne founded Tosangana in 2006 to follow up on the work her parents have done in Congo. The projects are situated in Kinshasa and focus on education, empowering women and agriculture. Juliènne also does projects in the Netherlands that support refugees.
In this story she tells us about what she is up to this month and the current situation in Congo.
Juliènne: "this month we have done some physical and online trainings for the teachers at our school. This training was based on the preparation of an active class. Teachers had to be able to work with a preparation sheet and show us how they do it. Next to this they have to be able to effectively record the lessons. We keep on working on professionalizing our teachers and offering them the tools they need."

How do you deal with the unrest and violence in Congo?
Juliènne: first of all we lobby and try to reach out to international policy makers that are involved with everything that happens in the DRC-Congo:
- We make our suggestions known to stop the war
- Raise awareness among compatriots who think that our work is useless
- Organize meetings where the real story of the war in the DRC is told
- And attend a demonstrations in the Netherlands
Can you do your projects?
Juliènne: "the projects continue, but they are influenced by the situation. For example on January 27, 28 and 29 everything was stopped due to the unrest in the whole country."
Sometimes it is difficult to follow up on our planning, every time we have to adapt to the situation. But we go on step by step and try to keep things going and the people motivated.
